The on going crisis in Toto LGA of Nasarawa St is a big shame and a great challenge on the part of government. It clearly reveals the ineptitude of government - Nasarawa in particular and it's gross failure in containing crises
before it gets out of hand.
Before the crisis wore it's ugly gown this morning in Ugya, signs of looming danger had obviously been manifest 2 or 3 days ago. But government agencies in charge of security did nothing impromptu to curtail it before it unleashed it's merciless terror on it's dwellers. Only later to engage in a fire brigade approach
after the damage has been done.
Brothers and sisters in humanity, we cannot continue to ride or hide under the gloomy guise of 'spill over' whatever that means to insinuate and perpetrate chaos where it does not exist in the name of
ethnic, tribal and/or religious vendetta.
There is no law human or divine which gives man the right to threaten, frighten, wound, maim or kill another man as vengeance for his clans man killed abroad or in a different territory.
The Holy Bible says: "...thou shall not kill..."
The Glorious Qur'an says: "...he who kills one single soul, it is (written upon him) as though he had killed all the inhabitants of the earth..."
While the society has a moral obligation to act as vanguard and report security challenges to government, government on it's part owe it as a duty to the society to apprehend these security challenges before they get out of hand.
We cannot afford to continue the culture of managing crises afterwards when we have every tool at hand to prevent it's occurrence if truly we want to progress and develop.
Whether we like it or not, we must still and continue to live together for no man is an island.
This bloodletting must STOP! And must stop NOW! Or else posterity will never forgive us for relinquishing an unstable and conflict prone society for them to inherit and manage the crises we created,
nurtured and fostered for our selfish gains.
President JFK of America once said: "if man doesn't put an end to violence, violence will (surely) put an end to man".
We pray and hope that the Government of Nasarawa State will take unbiased measures that will not only contain the further spread of the Toto crises but will see to it that future occurrence is justly forestalled.
